Unsafe Prescribing is a System Problem, Not Just one NP’s Problem
My medical director told me the old prescribing was unsafe. In the same conversation, he told me not to be disruptive. It took me a while to understand what those 2 sentences meant together.
They meant leadership understood the problem. They had decided that living with it cost less than fixing it. And for them, it did. The risk wasn't on the practice's books. It was on the prescriber's license.
That isn't one bad prescriber. It's a practice set up so the cost of a bad pattern lands on whoever holds the pen.
